wow - what a day.!!
packing the truck for the 3 speckled hens antique show in templeton - the heat was murder. had to keep cold showers and cold drinking water in balance to keep from passing out.
then, as i threw in the towel, my son called. adoption has been on the front burner for a while now. if all the kinks get worked out - and there are some - they just might be getting a baby next month. scary??? damned right. "grandma"??? guess it's time . . . still scary . . . . nervous . . . talk about almost passing out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm happy for them. i know they will be great parents. but are we ever ready for our kids to be parents and have kids of their own?? my maternal instinct is in overdrive right now!!
if i get a chance, i will take some pics of the loaded truck in the morning. tonight - i veg and compose tags for the show.
did i mention how glad i am to finally get this stuff out of my dining area?? ah-h-h-h, the life and home of the antique dealer.

last night i dined in my first oval room. a great old craftsman - being restored to period - decorated with antiques and the owners' treasures. mexican food done to perfection. the chatter was delightful. the hosts were well versed in the city's history. we compared notes on old houses and their stories - one of my passions.
the evening had an old-fashioned feel: a home cooked meal, conversation without a tv, old music oozing from a hidden stereo.
i left - feeling like a well worn, fuzzy slipper. i had every intention of curling up with my laptop. but - last night it just seemed out of place . . . . .

hello: i've been silent for days. lots has gone on. business mostly. that one week of fun set me back. playing catch-up and fast forward at the same time. next week, out of town again. doing the 3 speckled hens show in templeton. join us if you can - may 1st and 2nd.
my dining room is the staging ground for the show and it is driving me nuts!!! not just the normal flow of treasures in and out but an actual "put it all together - colors, items, decoration - have a real 'look see' ".
saturday i had the pleasure of meeting one of my followers - tallulah's antique closet. it was kind of exciting. don't you ever wonder who follows and why? actually, who posts and why? anyway, he was shopping our spring open house at mora's antiques in lake elsinore. how did he know it was me? probably by my stuff? forgot to ask him . . . . .
learned a bit about "hosting". not sure if i got it right. goes like this?: someone starts writing a "white wednesday" blog and all who want to join do a "white wednesday" on wednesday and they link it all together? somehow. so i am looking for a "blue monday", a "wicked wednesday", and a "fabulous friday"? anyone out there with this already started?
i've got to settle down for the night. been a long week - miles of driving - tons of loading - tired muscules from scrubbing and waxing.

driving to the other end of fresno, hopes were flying high. an estate sale! incredible items were listed in the ad.
upon arrival, hopes were quickly dashed. IF those items had been there, they were gone - vanished into thin air.
we circled thru the house in a ho-hum fashion - knick-knacks, nondescript furnishings, the usual kitchen clutter, and a very sparse garage. one more room, the master bedroom, the last possibility before we ran screaming down the driveway. i had lost pat. she was dragging rooms behind me. more disappointed than i.
(as i type this, i am still trying to get the kink out of my neck.)
when pat finally did arrive, she found me paralyzed with my head tilted way back. there it was. the jewel. the find of the trip. mounted on the wall above the dresser in perfect symmetry to matching table lamps, she posed. the most gorgeous barbola mirror i have ever had the pleasure of laying eyes upon. gesso over wood, only gold and white. 49 inches tall and 24 inches wide. swags that made me drool. i couldn't move. pat whispered "museum quality".

the price screamed "ouch" but the mirror crooned "buy me". but if she didn't fit in the cab of the truck, the deal was off. a measuring tape sprung into action. with a couple of inches to spare, she'd fit. with a lot of praying and padding, we secured her and away we went.

she is for sale at:

the humiliation chicken
i'm back. relaxing and much fun - the visit had to end. the usual hugs and tears marked my departure from my girlfriend's home - with the truck loaded down with goodies and a heavy heart, i headed south.
during the week, time lines came to mind. it has been 10 years that we have been back together. my son's wedding 10 years ago reconnected us. we separated in 1989 when my brother and she divorced. we separated needlessly. those years can never be recovered but, yet, it seems that they never occurred at all. as we age, we realize how much we love, like, and enjoy each other.
each trip always has that memorable moment. this one? she running out of money to buy a roasted chicken at whole foods. held up the whole damn line while i ran out to the truck for more change. we laughed like hell - afterwards. "the humiliation chicken" . . . .

hey all:
i am away from home at the moment. visiting a very special friend and, of course, antiquing. out of my comfort zone as far as computer, phone-to-laptop picture downloading, etc. wanted to do sneak peeks on the fabulous stuff i am accumulating in her garage but tampering with other's electronic toys is on my "no-no" list. it's right up there with borrowing and loaning vehicles - important commodities to the owners.
so all of you will have to wait till i return to my own virtual realm. (using his pc right now, but very, very cautiously - nervous as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory).
good night.

fabulous finds
it was a great sale today at country roads.
i found some wonderful things!
my plan was to sell, sell, sell - but the deals and the incredible stuff sucked money right out of my wallet.
